PROJECT OVERVIEW
This project explored urban resilience strategies for the Algiers neighborhood in New Orleans through living shoreline restoration, stormwater mitigation, and community-centered environmental systems. The proposal investigated how ecological infrastructure, local partnerships, and adaptive design strategies could support long-term coastal resilience while addressing broader social and economic vulnerabilities.
MY ROLE:
Research & Site Analysis
• Conducted cultural, demographic, and spatial research for the Algiers neighborhood
• Analyzed planning context, economic indicators, and community conditions
• Documented site conditions through photography and mapping

Stakeholder & Systems Strategy
• Identified organizations supporting coastal restoration initiatives, including CRCL and Glass Half Full
• Researched potential restaurant partnerships for oyster shell collection and reuse systems

Spatial & Conceptual Design
• Developed conceptual spatial strategies supporting living shoreline restoration and material reuse networks
• Produced GIS-based diagrams, contextual graphics, and visual communication materials
PROCESS / THINKING
One of the primary challenges of the project was translating large-scale coastal restoration systems into localized community interventions. Rather than treating shoreline restoration as isolated environmental infrastructure, the proposal explored how everyday community networks (restaurants, recycling systems, and local organizations) could become active participants in resilience-building efforts.
